Cara Delevingne drawing by jennasartwork Cara Delevingne drawing by jennasartwork
A fairly quick drawing of Cara Delevingne, an English fashion model. She is also famous for her amazing eyebrows :)
I tried to scan this and take a good photo but it just isn't working out, hopefully one day I will be able to, but it washes it out so much. Sorry about that! Any tips are appreciated with that problem. Thanks for viewing :)

thank you  don't feel bad at all, I see some other peoples art that is incredibly detailed and perfect and I feel inadequate compared to them. But you can't focus on that, only draw inspiration and ideas from them and improve :) In my opinion it is only varied levels of practice, if I hadn't practiced at all I would be a novice drawer, and if I had drawn more I would be better than I am now. Keep at it :)

Very beautiful work. I think the previous writer is correct: it matters little what brand of scanner you use. They all produce pretty good scans. Also, Photoshop (or some other type of image manipulation software) can seriously improve contrast and value.

thanks very much :) my current scanner just seems to always be too harshly bright and loses a lot of the midtones and details, and the texture of the pencils is changed to look grainy when in person it is smooth. I will just have to keep experimenting until I find a method that works best, I was wondering if it may be that the paper I draw on (just standard student type sketchbook paper, not much thicker than printer paper) is too thin so the light from the scanner may be going through it too easily

Buy a flatbed scanner. They're cheap. You won't get a good pic with a phone.

will have to look into that. is there a certain brand of flatbed scanner you use?

I don't think the brand matters much. All of the ones I've had perform pretty much the same. I have an HP right now. I paid $50 for it and it does everything I need it to do. You don't need to pay alot. They all pretty much do the same thing.

You call that a quick drawing? WOW! You're really good ! I use a program called VueScan for scanning. It has a lot of options for scanning and gives me better results than standard software. You might want to try it.

Thanks so much, and thank you for the tip :) Will definitely look at VueScan, having problems with my scanner being too overpowering and washing out the drawing >.<

It used to take me a long time of several days to do a portrait, but from practising I have learnt how to do things a whole lot quicker :) though if I was trying to make it exactly like the reference photo it would have taken me a lot longer ^^ playing music also helps to keep me focused on it

Same here, for the most part. It has to be music, not a song, because the words distract me.
